Pyzel Stubby Bastard Surfboard
The Pyzel Stubby Bastard Surfboard is your step-down board. This means its fantastic for those smaller days when you want to rip, doing big moves in small waves. Unlike a fish, the Stubby Bastard has a normal outline that’s been small wave optimised. Based on the board ridden by surfing’s hottest talent, World Champion John John Florence, the Stubby Bastard is shorter, faster, and way more fun in smaller waves. The wide point is forward which makes for easy wave catching. It’s easier getting to your feet and you get a planing feel on small faces. The rails are chunkier, fuller, so you get something to drive from while not catching, also being more forgiving. Overall volume is increased making it easier to get around in the small stuff.
The shaper, John Pyzel, says it so well, “What you end up with is a fast, loose and responsive board that can fit into tight, curvy little waves, extremely well, but will still hold its speed and flow in weaker, mushy surf.” The Pyzel Stubby Bastard is rated for waves from 2-8′. It’s recommended to be ordered and ridden 2-3 inches shorter, ¼ to ½ inch wider, and same or just a touch more thickness, than your regular shortboard. Get one and go blast small waves!
