The 22″ refers to the leg length. For most surfers this will be to below the knee. While some may feel this length can interfere with their surfing popup, others will say it gives protection to the top of your knee and thigh aiding popup. One thing is that the extra length looks super cool.

The engineered fabric is heavier than most boardshorts yet with special 2 way stretch. So you still get performance and flexibility in your surfing while feeling fully supported. The shorts also giving greater durability.
